If you have read My Story you know that living abroad and traveling a lot has been the start to my journey of living a simplified life and my passion for self care and finding a balanced lifestyle.
I have been moving quite a lot in my life, I moved cross-country, i moved overseas and between that i also travelled a lot. Moving out from my parents place was quite exiting because it meant to furnish my first apartment but at the same time it was also the start of collecting stuff i didn’t really need. With every move I kept holding on to things because „just in case“ I may need them one day. It was only 6 months later after i had moved once again when i decided to do Work & Travel in Australia. So what to take when you know that you will be backpacking for the next year? I knew i couldn’t take a lot with me, I had to pack light, so time had come to finally let go of things. Almost everything essential i owned fitted now in one backpack. By the time of traveling for the first few months I had already embraced the idea of living more freely by living with less.
Those years of moving and traveling have taught me a lot about myself and how to deal with not only my belongings but also with time, relationships and food. Living with only one bag for such a long time inspired me to a minimalistic lifestyle.
I started to think before buying anything and asked myself the questions „Does this item add any value to my life? Does it make me happy? Does it simplify my life? I stopped buying what I didn’t need and started focusing on quality over quantity. I made more time for things that make me happy. I have adapted this movement to all parts of my life, wanting less stuff but more happiness. Not wanting more and enjoying less is my secret to a simplified life.
The simplicity of life is no black or white it means different things to anyone. For me it started with decluttering my home and my belongings. Owing less stuff also meant to declutter my mind and to have more time for the important things in life. I realized that experiences makes me so much happier than any of the stuff i have at home. Collecting moments, creating memories and spending money towards experiences instead for replaceable things have become the most value in my life.
I am by far not at the point where I want to be, it will be a journey. A life journey i am so grateful to be on.
