I grew up in a small town near the baltic ocean in Germany. I am currently living in Hamburg with my little 2,5 year old boy and husband. My curiousity for healthy food and living a more conscious lifestyle started when I was living in Australia for 6 years. One of the things that people miss from home when living abroad is food. Well, not me, I thought I was in heaven, I was actually overwhelmed by the delicious and healthy range of food this beautiful country had to offer. But not only the Aussie lifestyle made me wanting to take care of my body also in preparation for one of the most challenging experience in my life, going on a 5 day trek to Maccu Piccu, I started exercising regularly and changing my diet to eating whole foods, cutting out processed food and cooking more healthy meals. Since moving back to Hamburg, living the repatriate life and missing the Aussie lifestyle a lot, I am drawn to food that is not only nourishing my body but also my soul and mind. I love food that makes me feel good and leaves me feeling vibrant and full of energy. Quick and easy meals prepared with only a handful of good quality organic ingredients paired with fresh herbs and spices are my favorite dishes.
Living abroad and traveling a lot has also been the start to my journey of living a simplified life and my passion for self care and finding a balanced lifestyle. I realised that living a healthy life is much more than just the food I eat. It’s about discovering myself, finding out what I feel good with, finding the right balance. I am inspired by nature and prefer to restore my batteries somewhere away from the crowds, most likely somewhere near the ocean, lakes or in the woods. If not that you will find me reading cookbooks all day or listening to podcasts about Mindfulness or traveling the world. Traveling and living amongst a melting pot of cultures has not only introduced me to so many new foods and broadened my culinary horizon it has also changed my perceptions, how I see things and people. I developed new attitudes and beliefs, new things were important to me and I lost old habits that i was happy about that i lost them.
Why the name LEAFS & ROOTS? It most likely describes me in two words. I have put down roots in two beautiful countries but at the same time I have that sense of being neither here nor there, like a leaf in the breeze. And second, as I became more interested in being more conscious with my foods, in the holistic utilization of food, in minimizing food waste and eating vegetables from root to leaf, the name was born.
Why writing this blog? There are so many reasons. Initially it was planned to be a blog with all my favorite recipes which I wanted to share with you. But while I was writing, researching topics and listening to podcasts, I realized that writing a blog is also a great way to reflect on my life and my experiences. I mean, when do you really take the time to sit down and think or even better to write about your life journey. And to share those stories to like minded people even better.
I hope this blog can inspire you to eat and live more conscious, to go out and discover the world, to have fun in life and to indulge in the things you love.
